My Daughter the Terrorist by M.J. / September 10

Yesterday our friend and ally Maya (bka M.I.A) made a public statement via her myspace blog, to once again denounce her involvement and support of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). She made mention of a web article she found about this, but more interesting than that was her mention of a film that has most assuredly fallen under the radar.

“My Daughter the Terrorist” is a 2006 Swedish documentary that takes an in depth look at the life of one member of the female Black Tigers (a specialized squad of LTTE suicide bombers, deployed for critical missions). Apparently Maya has yet to see the film and only just ordered it. If you have any interest buying the film just be mindful of NTSC vs PAL formating in DVD players ; )

Anyhow… I added the trailer below in hopes that you all continue to use the tools we have been provided to stay educated. Lest we not forget, we are the first generation of Post-Colonial times to own these “internets” and tools like this. Put them to work!

  1. im trying to check this one out…its super important to check films like this cause they usually exist only in academia(Women Make Movies own distribution on this one and screening prices are up there!)-and folks end up writing papers about it that influence the way folks react to the imagery and it tend to be one sided..and that aint good from the representation of folks who actually need to see it for themselves and come to a conclusion on their own…plus im always leery of the super objective films(they often times tend to wreckless with representation as opposed to subjective representation)…with the filmmakers being swedish im interested to see how they handled the interviews and the way they laid the film out…ill holler if i get a chance to check it…
